Welcome From the Principal
Welcome to New Liberty Innovation School!
Our school reopened as an Innovation School, a full member of the Salem Public Schools, on July 1, 2016. I became the new principal on that date, and am so excited to be a part of the New Liberty team!
A lot of changes are underway at New Liberty, as we transition from being a charter to a public school, but much will remain the same. The positive, supportive relationships staff develop with students will remain at the core of our school. We will also continue to uphold our “three pillars”—academics, the development of essential habits of successful adults, and employment. We continue to be competency-based, which means students learn at their own pace and demonstrate their knowledge and skills through a variety of formats. This allows us to cater student schedules to their individual needs. As part of our social-emotional curriculum, we will offer bi-weekly off-site “adventures” to fun and interesting locations like museums, boat tours, and parks. Lastly, we’re excited to be able to continue to offer on-site and off-site employment to our students and also train them in Career Readiness classes.
The New Liberty Team is also working hard to support our students in being able to graduate more quickly. One of our new initiatives is the development of a Road Map that will allow us to determine how many classes a student needs to take in order to graduate. We are also offering exciting, specialized, inter-disciplinary courses for the month of December, which will focus on topics of real interest to our students and incorporate visits to many off-site locations.
It’s been a pleasure getting to know the New Liberty Community. We’re gearing up for a wonderful 2016-2017 school year. We welcome your input and questions; please contact us!
