NLIS Does Not Discriminate
New Liberty Innovation School strives to provide a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment in which all students can thrive and succeed in school. NLIS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, sex, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, age, ancestry, athletic performance, special need, proficiency in the English language or a foreign language, or prior academic achievement. NLIS ensures that all students have equal rights of access and equal enjoyment of the opportunities, advantages, privileges, of our courses of study. Reference: (GL Chapter 71, 89(m); 603 CMR 1.05 (2)).
New Liberty Innovation School is part of Salem Public Schools. This means that admission to this school is open only to Salem residents, however, NLIS has an autonomy as an innovation school to accept students from other communities if both school districts agree. Please contact us for further information.
If you do not have regular or adequate housing, if you are temporarily living with a friend, or if you are under 18 and not under the care of a parent or guardian, you may be considered homeless under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act. If you lived in Salem before you became homeless or are currently staying in temporary shelter in Salem, you may be eligible to attend NLIS. Please contact the school for more information about McKinney-Vento and the services NLIS can provide for homeless and unaccompanied young adults.
As a competency-based school, NLIS students progress through our course of study at their own pace. This means that while it may take one student only a year to complete the graduation requirements, another student may take three or four years to reach the same level of competence.
If you are curious how long it will take you to graduate from NLIS, our staff will happily meet with you either before or after you file an application. This is not a required step in the NLIS application process, but it may be helpful in your decision making process.
New Liberty Innovation School accepts new students at the start of each academic trimester when space is available.
